Cardamomo — branch your ideas out

Add the next thought with the + below a card. The + on a vertical line makes room in between.

Use the + to the right of a card to add its first child. Add more children with the + above or below that child.

Hover the line leaving a card to the right, then click to hide its children. Click the little square to expand them again. Hidden writing is still saved and exported. The collapse/expand-all button left of Preview, or C outside editable text, expands all canvas branches if any are folded; otherwise it collapses them all. Docked cards stay unchanged. Undo restores the previous folds.

Option/Alt + Ctrl + Shift + arrows merges with a neighbor. ↑ / ↓ requires the same parent: the upper card stays, followed by both sets of children in order. ← merges into the parent; → merges its first child (expand folded branches first). The parent stays; the selected child’s children take its place and move left. Other siblings keep their order. Text stays in top-to-bottom or parent-first order, separated by a paragraph. Nested folds are preserved. Undo restores the original cards and children.

Drag the top handle within or between columns. Drop above/below a card, or beside a parent to attach as its child. The whole branch travels with it. Escape cancels a drag.

Hold Option/Alt while dragging to reveal the dock, then drop the card inside. Its children stay together and collapse. Open the dock before New, or with ⌘/Ctrl Shift D, and drag the branch back wherever you need it. Save preserves parked branches; Markdown export appends them after the main document.

Open accepts Cardamomo documents and Markdown files. Cardamomo documents restore cards, connections, folds, zoom, and canvas position. Markdown headings become columns. New starts with one blank card. Undo restores the previous draft.

The focus button beside dark mode fills the screen and hides the header. Use it again or press Escape to leave. Opening a card to write brings its column to the center.

Use the document icon, or P outside editable text, to read and edit cards as a wider stack. Hover the bottom-left corner to reveal a numbered square that folds a card’s descendants: filled means collapsed, outlined means expanded. A faint empty square remains visible when a branch is folded. Folds stay in sync with the branch view; docked cards stay separate. Dragging carries the whole branch. Hover a gap to insert a sibling of the following card; at the end, a sibling of the last card. Switch back to restore the canvas view with the same folds.

Save keeps your complete document as a .cardamomo file for continuing on another device. Export creates plain Markdown, reading a card, its children, then the next sibling.
